Double Sanction to Be Applied for Illegal Parking

Due to system of removing tire valve is not effective, Jakarta Transportation Department imposed a double sanction for vehicles parked illegally in the capital. The sanction which has been ongoing since Monday (9/8) is in form of towing and fine payment as much as Rp 500,000.

If the offenders are late paying the fine, they will get double sanction and must pay Rp 1 million. If it was paid late three days, its amount would increase Rp 1.5 million with multiples of Rp 500,000 per day

Such sanction is imposed in Tanah Abang (Central Jakarta), Kalibata City (South Jakarta), Jatinegara Area (East Jakarta), Marunda Access (North Jakarta) and Beos (West Jakarta). After being towed, the vehicles would be brought to the emergency shelters in Rawa Buaya (West Jakarta), Barang Pulogebang Terminal (East Jakarta) and Barang Tanah Merdeka Terminal (North Jakarta).

Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, Muhammad Akbar admitted that raid against illegal parking on the roadside through action of deflating, locking, and removing tire valve does not give deterrent effect. As a result, illegal parking keeps rampant from day by day.

Illegal Parking in W. Jakarta Still Rampant

"The double sanction is in accordance with the Bylaw No. 3/2012 on Regional Levies. We impose this rule with the payment of high fees in order to give deterrent effect to the offenders," he stated, Monday (9/1).

He furthered as the initial stage, towing sanction was planned to be conducted in five out of 30 illegal parking-prone areas.

"This is just socialization, thus we decided to do the rule at five areas first. Incidentally, they are relatively vulnerable to illegal parking. Thus far, we are often receiving complaints from locals. Similar raid will also be conducted in 20 other areas," he expressed.

Akbar disclosed that fines imposed on violators will be deposited into the account for regional levies via DKI Bank, and it will automatically move to Jakarta Provincial Government's treasury.

Deputy Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, Benyamin Bukit added payment of illegal parking levies is Rp 500,000 per day and its amount would increase if it is paid late, reaching Rp 500,000 per day.
